Brightleaf Square: ArcGIS/SketchUp Workflow
I made these 3D models for the final assignment in an advanced GIS course at UNC Chapel Hill's Department of City and Regional Planning. Our only instruction was to explore a third party extension to ArcGIS and write a report on how and why it would be used. The decision to explore SketchUp was my own and I developed the workflow independently.
The slides below outline the (admittedly tedious) steps I took.
Note: I believe this process has become more streamlined since I completed this project. I've also read that SketchUp Pro is more readily compatible with ArcGIS, but I took the challenge of working with free SketchUp Make. (And by taking the challenge, I mean I accepted my college student budget)
